Let’s see how it plays out for him. I have no strong feelings one way or the other. The Bel Air never tickled my pickle. But I don’t resign it to meh status. I’ve seen a rat rodded Pontiac Chieftain I thought was neat.
What say you council of Oppo?

I mean...they’re okay but the ‘57 is so overplayed that I prefer the earlier two of the trio. I think it’s like the first-generation Mustang, it’s just a fancy new body on an old chassis. The only thing that’s really great about the Bel Air and it’s lower-tier siblings is that it’s a blank canvas to customize to your liking.
Edit: forgot about the introduction of the SBC V8. I guess that’s another important thing of the Bel Air (although the ‘55 Vette had it as well and I’d rather take a Vette over a Bel Air).

I don’t really care about them, but my mom had two 55s and a 57, back when they weren’t classics, so I like them for that.

You can be tired of seeing them at car shows but to call them meh is click bait nonsense. They were extremely important in the history of cars.

There must have been meh cars around though. I don’t however, have a good sense at all as to how these were perceived at the time. But surely some would have been seen as entirely underwhelming in their day.

The SBC is a huge part of what makes the 55-57 Chevy so iconic. And without the Bel Air, there would be no SBC.
To be fair to the Bel Air or the Mustang, you really have to compare them to what was available at the time - they look quite favorable when you do that, but of course they pale now.

These were pretty exciting cars for the time - Studebaker, Rambler, DeSoto, Pontiac, Buick and a host of others were building meh cars at the time.

Torch’s meh car thing has run its course. It's decayed into click baity bad hot takes.

I get his point, but I definitely disagree. Common does not equal meh.

Isolated to just the cars themselves I think they’re very good looking and not at all MEH, even compared to other cars from the era. But I don’t disagree with Jason, When it comes to buying and owning a classic car, a Tri-5 Chevy is about as predictable, least imaginative , and boring as it can get.
